Outcome

I do not uphold Mrs N’s complaint and no further action is required by Standard Life.

My reasons for reaching this decision are explained in more detail below.

Complaint summary

Mrs N’s complaint is that Standard Life paid a portion of the lump sum death benefit under her ex-husband’s pension plans to a third child (Child H) who is not a valid beneficiary.

Mrs N says there is no proof that Child H is the daughter of her ex-husband (Mr Y). Mrs N says Standard Life has refused to enquire into Child H’s paternity despite the evidence she has provided.
